Preparing for your Boudoir Session

Seattle boudoir photographer: Jennifer Tai Photo ArtistryPhotography is understandably a stressful activity for anyone who’s not a model, but I truly believe that the key to beautiful boudoir photography is setting reasonable expectations, which will produce a relaxed subject for the camera.

HIRE A PROFESSIONAL Just as you have hired me to photograph you in your intimates, you should also hire hair and makeup professionals to make you look and feel your best! JTPA boudoir sessions provide makeup from a makeup professional. I can also make recommendations for hair stylists if you like. I prefer loose, flowing hair as a fan may be used. Depending on the theme and style of the shoot, we may employ other looks that use wigs and extensions.

The details matter! Make sure your nails and feet look good too! Do them a couple of days before your session.

WHEN BUYING LINGERIE, make sure to get undies that aren’t too tight. Look at some Victoria’s Secrets catalogues for looks you like (unless it’s a themed shoot, then I will send you some inspiration boards). If these pictures are for your partner, sneak something of his (or hers) like a shirt or a tie – they make sexy props! Take some time to look at fashion mags – take note of looks you like, tear them out and bring them with you.

REMEMBER TO BRING an overcoat. The nearest bathroom at the studio is a floor up, through hallways of other studios.

REST IS YOUR BEST FRIEND! Make sure to sleep early the night before! Well-rested bodies make well-rested minds. Plus I won’t need to spend too much time fixing eye bags :) .

At the studio, I supply music and some wine. Please bring some snacks if you like.
